I wish I got TechTV, so I could add that to my shows that add to my inner geekdom. I’ll just have to settle for reading a lot.

I’m superstoked. 30 hours until my ass is drinking cheap beer at the O’Hare Admirals Club. And I’ll get to work on my German on the flight over so I don’t feel like I’m an idiot (well, any more than usual) when I’m in Zurich and Frankfurt (separately) in the Spring.

Looking forward to a light 3 day workweek. Office 2003 launch, then London for 2 nights. I might try to take a bump to LHR. Sitting in business or voucher – why not? Voucher means weekend in Toronto, which means INSPass and CANPass acquisition. And country #8 this year.

Random thoughts on today’s events:

Elizabeth Smart. Her parents are whoring out their daughter. That much is obvious. I still think there’s something fishy about her story and her ordeal and that she was at some level, a willing participant.

Terry Schiavo. Let the poor woman die. 13 years in a “persistent vegetative state” generally means the woman won’t recover. I understand the parent’s frustration in this and the public’s outrage – but she’s not going to recover and her quality of life will never be the same. What’s a bigger crime? To let this woman die by starvation or let her die a natural death down the road and be a burden to others for the next 30-40 years?

If this happened to me, I’d hope my family would have the good sense to smother me with a pillow.

London in 7 days. Finally got off my ass to get my hotel today. Priceline rocks!

Uneventful weekend. Spent it volunteering at The Field Museum.

However, I did a good deed for the day and hooked Bruce Schwab up with an airline ticket so he can work on his boat, Ocean Planet up in Portland. You gotta like anyone who’s insane enough to try the Vendee Globe.

What I’ve learned this week from the Cubs collapse.

1) Steve Bartman will be a perpetual whipping boy among Cubs fans. He won’t be able to show himself at a Cubs game again ever. No matter what this guy does for the rest of his life – the first paragraph of his obituary is written.

And yet he did nothing wrong. It was a ball in foul territory. It wasn’t like the Jeter almost-home run that was taken by Trot Nixon. And other fans were grabbing at the ball too.

If I were him, I’d go to Florida and milk his 15 minutes for all it’s worth.

2) The “lovable losers” is a self-fulfilling prophecy. This is so ingrained in the fans and players. Like still water, it runs deep.

3) Kerry Wood blew his chance to show us that he was the pitcher everyone thinks he is.

I’m sort of in a rut recently. I don’t know why. Work is ok, dating is pretty lame (but nothing more than the usual). I just need to go somewhere. I’m only at home when I’m on the run, to paraphrase Neil Peart.

Well, first of all, I’ve got to congratulate you for stumbling upon this random blog. I’m a 20-something from Chicago who likes to travel. Year to date, 82,000 miles, 8 countries, 4 continents with still more to go. I’m a full time office slave who is active in the community. And I’ve been known to sail some.

Full flamage can occur if you email me at nhawkins242@yahoo.de.

Today I’m currently at home, and in the middle of a twitching stage. I won’t be on a plane for 21 days. Then it’s London for two days. 7906 miles round trip for 48 hours in London? I’ve done stupider.
